Dutch offshore services provider Van Oord has been granted the contract for constructing the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm. Van Oord has been contracted by Poland's PGE and Danish Ørsted to transport and install 111 monopiles for the Baltica 2 wind farm project. The Baltica Offshore Wind Farm will be situated 40 kilometres off the coast of Poland, between Łeba and Ustka.
Van Oord will transport and install 111 extended monopiles, with 107 as wind turbine foundations and the remaining four as offshore substation foundations.
PGE Baltica management board president Arkadiusz Sekściński said: “We consistently conclude further contracts with global companies from the offshore industry for installing all components for the Baltica 2 project.
"We already arranged for vessels to install turbines and cables, and we are now equipped with a fleet that will lay the foundations for the offshore wind farm."The installation of monopiles is scheduled for 2026, while the first electricity from Baltica 2 will flow into homes a year later."
The offshore wind farm will feature extended monopiles, which are foundations that combine a conventional monopile and a transition piece into one unit. The expanded monopiles will save lifting activities offshore, enabling the installation to be safer and faster for Van Oord's fallpipe vessel Nordnes. As an outcome of these alterations, the Svanen will be enabled to set the foundations for the Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm's new 14 MW wind turbines.
"In 2023, we reached contracts for the supply of all components for the offshore part of the Baltica 2 project, and we already have the last contracts ahead of us, which brings us closer to the realisation of this strategic project for offshore wind energy in Poland," said Agata Staniewska-Bolesta, Managing Director of Ørsted Offshore Poland.
