The Dominican Republic, the Netherlands and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) are working together to explore practical solutions for climate change adaptation, particularly around the country's vulnerable coastal and water environments. The initiative brings together Dutch expertise in water management with Dominican research and local knowledge.
The collaboration reflects a growing focus on helping coastal and maritime regions prepare for sea-level rise, flooding, coastal erosion and more extreme weather events. Rather than relying only on traditional infrastructure, climate adaptation increasingly combines engineering with environmental and nature-based approaches.
The Netherlands is particularly relevant as a global leader in water management, coastal protection and dredging, with extensive experience developing infrastructure to protect low-lying and coastal areas. Similar approaches are increasingly being applied internationally as climate risks grow.
Relevance to SA
This is relevant to SA because climate adaptation projects require many of the same marine, survey and engineering capabilities that SA already provides.
THE FOUR PILLARS OF SA
Your Trusted Partner for Project Execution
STAFFING SOLUTIONS
The right expertise, wherever the project takes place
Specialised personnel for survey, marine and subsea operations, ROV, diving, cable lay, installation and construction.
ENGINEERING
Engineering solutions for real offshore challenges.
From concept, FEED and detailed design to structural and hydrodynamic analysis, system integration, technical and interface management, bespoke equipment and installation engineering
ASSURANCE & COMPLIANCE
Independent insight. Greater confidence. Lower project risk.
Independent reviews, HAZOP, FMECA, HSE & operational risk audits, integrity verification, technical & regulatory compliance, gap analysis and failure investigation.
FABRICATION & MAINTENANCE
Turning engineering into operational assets.
Through strategic partners: fabrication, new construction, equipment overhaul, upgrades, maintenance, and shop & field repair.
Looking Ahead
The Dominican Republic–Netherlands collaboration highlights how countries are increasingly investing in coastal resilience, water management and climate-adaptive infrastructure.
For SA Operations, the opportunity lies at the intersection of survey, engineering, dredging, marine operations and specialist personnel—supporting projects designed to make ports, coastlines and marine infrastructure more resilient to a changing climate.
