Dutch-Norwegian, Katapult Ocean Portfolio Company SolarDuck, Italian independent asset management Green Arrow Capital, and Italian developer New Developments s.r.l. have mutually agreed to work along on the development of a landmark 120MWp OFPV farm integrated with 420MW Floating Offshore Wind (FOW) in the Gulf of Taranto, off Italy.
SolarDuck has been recognised as the project's technical companion, and the partnership is expected to represent the company's appearance in the Italian market.
With more than 160 GWh of solar energy annually the Corigliano offshore hybrid wind-solar farm, which will comprise 28 floating wind turbines, will feature a total capacity of 540 MW.
"We think that with the current momentum, the offshore renewable energy industry has a unique chance to assist in establishing a favourable legislative environment and support the scaling of OFPV. This is crucial not only for Italy but also for other Mediterranean countries. "Our collaboration with New Developments and Green Arrow Capital can also catalyze OFPV in Italy," says Koen Burgers, CEO of SolarDuck.
The venture is part of Green Arrow Capital's Infrastructure of the Future Fund ("GAIF"), which focuses on renewable energy and digital infrastructure in high-growth European regions.
The project will involve SolarDuck's unique addressed platform technology, which enables PV panels to be placed at high wave heights while preserving a safe working environment for access and maintenance and minimising environmental effects. Furthermore, the agreement will enable the complementary use of wind and solar energy resources.
"As renewable energy leaders in Italy, we are always striving to set the standard, as seen by our unique offshore projects. These cutting-edge infrastructures not only generate green energy, which contributes to sustainable energy transition and independence, but they also demonstrate complementarity with onshore installations, preserving valuable land resources," said Daniele Camponeschi, Founder and CIO of Green Arrow Capital Group.
The FER2 Decree is planned to include tools to support renewable energy projects such as OFPV, allowing the country to capitalise on its marine potential while also playing a significant part in the EU's ambitious decarbonisation goals.
