Oceaneering has conducted the initial onshore piloting of a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) remotely from an onshore remote operation centre (OROC) in Brazil, which was carried out in collaboration with the Brazilian oil and gas giant Petrobras.
The goal required an advanced setup procedure to establish a link across the data networks of both companies. The objective was to achieve lower latency while following their high cyber security regulations.
The Oceaneering team received assignments with an array of work scopes in sea depths ranging from 5 to 1100 metres (16 to 3600 feet). The team carried out inspections and high-level operations such as hull inspections, cleaning, and interventions. The operation concluded over 14 days in November 2023 onboard the CBO Manoella vessel.
The Oceaneering team conducted remote operations from land using the 220-horsepower heavy work class Millennium® Plus ROV. The Brazilian crew kept the vehicle running on four distinct scopes with 100% uptime.

The two companies marked a contract in October 2023 for the operation of drill pipe riser (DPR) systems in Brazil. Following a five-year contract, Oceaneering's wholly-owned subsidiary Marine Production Systems do Brasil will run three current DPR systems to support intervention and completion operations.
