Permits were granted for two additional Dutch North Sea wind projects

A construction permit has been obtained for the offshore wind project IJmuiden Ver Beta in the Netherlands by Zeevonk II, a joint venture between Vattenfall, one of Europe's leading energy companies, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a global leader in renewable energy investments.

A new electrolyser in the Maasvlakte industrial district at the Port of Rotterdam, a 50-MW floating offshore solar farm, and a 2-GW wind farm in the North Sea are all part of the overall strategy. This will produce green hydrogen from IJmuiden Ver power.

The proposition included both area-specific and various general requirements, such as a financial proposal and environmental standards.

Vattenfall and CIP's proposed floating offshore solar farm at IJmuiden Ver Beta will have ten times the capacity of the first project of its kind, located at Hollandse Kust West Site VII.

With the introduction of IJmuiden Ver, the Netherlands is making yet another significant leap in the energy transition. This project will combine solar, wind, and hydrogen energy to produce a cutting-edge energy system that will aid in the continued decarbonisation of our society and industry. Martijn Hagens, CEO of Vattenfall Netherlands, stated, "We are incredibly proud to have received this permit and look forward to implementing our plans for this energy park with CIP."

Using the power produced at IJmuiden Ver Beta, the two partners also intend to establish a sizable electrolyzer at the Maasvlakte in the Port of Rotterdam in order to make hydrogen. System integration solutions were also required for IJmuiden Ver Beta, according to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), which is in charge of the procurement process.

In addition to offering €20 million annually for 40 years, the Zeevonk joint venture between Vattenfall and CIP will also cover the about €20 million cost of site studies and environmental impact evaluations.

"With ambitious offshore wind and hydrogen targets, the Netherlands is at the forefront of the energy transition and stands out as a pioneer in this field," said Felix Pahl, a partner at CIP. As a team at CIP, we are sure that our solid collaboration with Vattenfall will help and facilitate the Netherlands' transition to a carbon-neutral future. A significant step towards achieving the goal of an integrated energy system in the North Sea is the awarding of IJmuiden Ver Beta by CIP's Energy Transition Fund.
