The Harald East Middle Jurassic well ("HEMJ") has been successfully spudded by the jackup rig Shelf Drilling Winner, according to a recent announcement from BlueNord. Drilling has begun a few months after the Danish Underground Consortium (DUC) partners, which include Nordsøfonden (20%), BlueNord (36.2%), and operator TotalEnergies (43.2%), made their final investment decisions (FIDs) in January 2024.
The gas will be exported via the Tyra East facilities, and the HEMJ was spudded in the Harald East region near the Norwegian border. If all goes well, the well may start producing by the end of 2024.
Up to 8 million barrels of net gain are anticipated from the well for BlueNord, of which gas is projected to make up about 80%.
The Friede & Goldman JU-3000N designed Shelf Drilling Winner rig, constructed in 2014, has a maximum drilling depth of 35,000 feet and a maximum water depth of 400 feet. It can house 150 personnel.
"We are happy to report that the jackup rig Shelf Drilling Winner has successfully spudded the HEMJ well. Drilling will begin in the chalk reservoir and continue into the extremely attractive Jurassic reservoir. "We anticipate observing the outcomes later this year, and if successful, BlueNord could benefit greatly from the anticipated gains from HEMJ," stated Miriam Lykke, Chief Operating Officer of BlueNord.
The gas will be exported via the Tyra East facilities if these exploratory activities yield more hydrocarbons.

Since October 2022, the jack-up has been employed by TotalEnergies in Denmark. This assignment is expected to conclude in March 2025.
