Geoquip Marine has been awarded a contract to collect engineering data for a potential floating offshore wind project in Scotland being built by ScottishPower and Shell. Geoquip Marine is planning a full geotechnical study to collect soil and geotechnical data for the MarramWind project.
This model, according to the company, is critical for feasibility studies, covering the design and installation evaluations of various components such as anchors for floating platforms, solid foundations for the offshore substation, and inter-array cable networks.
The proposed MarramWind project, located 75 kilometres off the northeast coast of Scotland at ocean depths of 100 metres, may supply up to 3 GW of cleaner renewable energy, enough to power the equivalent of more than 3.5 million households.
