Baker Hughes, a U.S.-based energy technology leader, has introduced an all-electric subsea production system, signaling a major move toward full electrification in offshore operations. The system provides a fully electric topside-to-downhole solution, capable of integrating with existing subsea tree designs or retrofitting electro-hydraulic trees.
The company also unveiled SureCONTROL Plus interval control valves, replacing hydraulic lines with electrical lines. This innovation allows for remote operations and simplified installations, reducing rig time, accelerating production, and lowering intervention costs.
Additionally, Baker Hughes launched the Hummingbird all-electric land cementing unit. This solution replaces diesel engines with grid-connected or battery-powered motors, significantly cutting emissions and noise levels. Designed for high-pressure cementing operations, it aims to enhance reliability and reduce maintenance needs.
Built for both shallow and deepwater developments, the new modular subsea production system extends its applications to subsea carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) fields and long-offset tieback projects. By eliminating hydraulics, the technology is expected to drive down costs and streamline subsea installations.
According to Amerino Gatti, Executive Vice President of Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes, hydrocarbons will continue to be a crucial part of the global energy mix for decades. “By electrifying the production value chain, we can enhance operations to be cleaner, safer, and more efficient, while continuing to supply the energy required worldwide,” he said.
This move aims to reduce costs, shorten installation time, and simplify operations, all while improving production control, reliability, and lowering carbon emissions across a field’s lifecycle.
