Following the approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment and the process to incorporate the recommendations from the Environmental Compatibility Decree into Terna's project, the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security has resurrected the project to simplify the electrical grid in the Valle del Piave, outside of Belluno.
Terna has committed 149 million euros to the project, which would include the demolition of 390 pylons and almost 100 kilometers of overhead cables.
In addition, a new 220 kV section will be developed inside the present 132 kV Polpet electrical substation and connected to the Soverzene grid node's 220 kV power lines. Belluno, Ponte nelle Alpi, Soverzene, Longarone, Ospitale di Cadore, and Perarolo di Cadore are among the municipalities that will be involved in the grid restructuring because of the extensive demolition plan.
Together with boosting grid resilience and guaranteeing increased dependability in the face of extreme weather occurrences, the works will enable enhanced reliability and quality of service. Additionally, even in cases where the grid is not fully operational, the project will guarantee that the energy produced by the hydroelectric power substations in Alto Bellunese is fully used.
After discussions between Terna, the Veneto Region, and the local community, the original project was modified primarily in three ways: the Polpet-Lienz line in the Municipality of Perarolo (Val Montina) was moved further away from a traditional cheese maturation hut; the Polpet-Lienz line was crossed over the Piave River by a single underground corridor, maintaining the Polpet-Lienz line on the hydrographic right of the Piave.
