Fugro received the geophysical survey contract for the Dutch Doordewind offshore wind farm zone development

Recently, Fugro received the geophysical survey contract for the Dutch Doordewind offshore wind farm zone development. The Doordewind offshore wind farm zone is located about 77 kilometres off the northern coast of the Netherlands.

These insights guide future geotechnical research and offshore wind plant design. Furthermore, the data will be used to organise geotechnical studies and construct the offshore wind farm and its infrastructure.

Fugro's decision was shaped by its 2D ultra-ultra-high resolution (UUHR) surveys, that offer unrivaled data quality. The Doordewind project, driven by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), is the part of Dutch government's Offshore Wind Energy Roadmap 2030, which intends to accelerate offshore wind development in the Netherlands.

Giljaam van der Meulen, RVO's project manager for this initiative, stated that "RVO is challenging the offshore market to come up with innovations to speed up the energy transition in the Netherlands". During site studies, RVO is continually searching for process innovations and improvements. Fugro is a firm that understands this completely, thus we are delighted to collaborate with them on this project."

It is set to begin in April and will be carried out by the company's geophysical vessel, Fugro Pioneer. The wind farm will cover around 580 square kilometres and have a total capacity of 4 GW, distributed evenly between two distinct areas. The 2 GW Doordewind I and II are due to be auctioned in 2027, with commissioning scheduled for 2031.

Sven Plasman, Fugro's project director and government connection manager, stated: "One of Fugro's primary goals is to assist governments throughout the world with the energy transition. So we're delighted to be a part of this outstanding offshore wind project and to assist the Dutch government in realising its goals. The advancement of our geophysical boats and innovation geared at giving higher-quality data is demonstrating their worth. We are delighted to use it in this important project and look forward to collaborating with RVO."

It will function as the first wind farm to link to Eemshaven, a seaport in Groningen, the Netherlands' northern region.
