First Siemens Gamesa Turbine Installed at Yeu-Noirmoutier Offshore Wind Farm
The first 61 Siemens Gamesa turbines have been successfully installed at the Îles d'Yeu and Noirmoutier offshore wind farm in France, marking a significant step forward in the country's renewable energy targets. Full commissioning is expected by the end of 2025.
Siemens Gamesa Turbine Installation Marks Major Milestone at Yeu-Noirmoutier Offshore Wind Farm
At SA Operations, we continue to monitor key developments across Europe's renewable energy sector, especially those that signal increased activity in offshore telecommunications, crewing, and project logistics. One such significant milestone is the successful installation of the first Siemens Gamesa turbine at the Îles d'Yeu and Noirmoutier offshore wind farm, a significant offshore development off the French Atlantic coast.
According to Siemens Gamesa France Managing Director Yara Chakhtoura, this is a pivotal moment not only for the Yeu-Noirmoutier project but also for France's broader energy goals. The wind farm, located approximately 11.7 kilometers from Île d'Yeu and 16.5 kilometers from Île de Noirmoutier, will feature 61 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines upon completion, with full operations expected by the end of 2025.
This milestone was achieved through a well-coordinated effort involving the jack-up vessel Vole au Vent, operated by Jan De Nul. The vessel has already delivered four nacelles, four towers, and twelve blades from the Nantes-Saint Nazaire Port to the installation site. The remaining turbine components, including blades and nacelles manufactured in Le Havre, will be installed in phases between May and September 2025.
What stands out from an SA Operations perspective is the strategic collaboration across multiple international partners. The project involves a robust network including Ocean Winds, Sumitomo Corporation, Banque des Territoires, and Vendée Energie, working under the consortium EMYN (Éoliennes en Mer des Îles d'Yeu et de Noirmoutier). Engineering and construction support includes monopiles supplied by China's Dajin Heavy Industry and transition pieces delivered by Eiffage.
As EMYN Project Director Frédéric Flaus highlighted, the successful installation of the first turbine marks the final stretch of a complex offshore operation. The offshore wind farm will soon provide up to 488 MW of clean energy and generate long-term employment for approximately 85 personnel, with around 60 roles based directly on Île d'Yeu to manage operations and maintenance.
From a workforce planning and recruitment standpoint, this surge in offshore activity demonstrates growing demand for highly skilled professionals in subsea operations, cable laying, jacket installation, and turbine assembly. For recruiters and project managers, the project exemplifies the value of precision coordination and experienced offshore talent—an area where SA Operations delivers unmatched expertise.
Telecoms and data infrastructure will be equally vital as the offshore sector continues to scale up. Offshore wind farms such as Yeu-Noirmoutier depend heavily on robust communication systems for everything from remote monitoring to predictive maintenance and crew safety. This reinforces the growing intersection between offshore energy and telecommunications—two industries where SA Operations has deep specialization.
We look forward to seeing how the Yeu-Noirmoutier project unfolds and are committed to supporting similar projects worldwide through expert recruitment, logistics coordination, and compliance support.
