Asso.subsea completes Fécamp inter-array cable work offshore France

The inter-array cable installation and protection activities for the 500 MW Fécamp wind farm offshore Normandy, France, were completed by Asso.subsea. Prysmian Group, based in Italy, engaged Asso.subsea to carry out seabed preparation, installation, and protection operations.

The Fécamp offshore wind farm will consist of 71 Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 wind turbines, with the initial one set to be established in July of this year. The 500 MW offshore wind farm began producing power the same month.

"This key project marks a significant milestone for Asso.subsea, as it is the company's first inter-array project," stated Dimitris Panagos, Director of Offshore Wind Projects at Asso.subsea. "As a single-source service provider for offshore activities, we effectively put in and protected a total of 71 cables, being responsible for loading, transportation, installation, protection, and backfilling of more than 118km of submarine cables, offering our expertise and extended ability to execute an extremely complex project, thanks to a full vertically-integrated solution."

The project, according to the company, was characterised by exceptionally hard soils and stringent burying criteria, so it designed and manufactured a new trenching vehicle, the AssoTrencher IV Mk13, with an innovative technique to improve backfilling capabilities.
