A new tender by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) for geotechnical assessments at the Doordewind zone

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) recently released a tender for geotechnical assessments at the Doordewind zone to enhance its renewable energy supply following the Offshore Wind Energy Roadmap 2030-2031.

The €42 million contract will cover offshore geotechnical studies at the Exploration Area in the Doordewind Wind Farm Zone sites I and II. The data collected during the project will be available for use by participants in future offshore wind development competitions for the two Doordewind locations.

The Doordewind Wind Farm Zone is located about 60 kilometres off the northern coast of the Netherlands, north of the island of Ameland. It is comprised of two locations, each with a proposed installed capacity of 2 GW. Since mid-2023, two Metocean Measuring Campaigns have been running in the zone.

The deadline for submitting methods to RVO is May 10, 2024, and the contract will run from July 2024 to January 1, 2027.

A geotechnical survey will be done next year, and construction on the ground model will begin. The tender for the Geotechnical Survey for Doordewind Wind Farm Zone sites I and II has recently been issued. The proposed contract will be divided into two lots. Lot 1 consists of an offshore seabed campaign with seabed CPTs up to 60 metres below seafloor (bsf), including SCPTs and TCPTs. This deal will also comprise an offshore vibrocore campaign with samples up to 6 metres bsf and an associated laboratory programme.

The second lot involves an offshore drilling programme, which includes laboratory testing. The campaign comprises of boreholes with a target depth of 40-60 metres bsf, including sampling, with samples subjected to a laboratory testing programme that includes static and cyclic testing, as well as microchemical testing.

The tender for the ground model will be released in a few weeks, RVO stated. The 2 GW Doordewind I and II are set to be auctioned in 2027, with commissioning scheduled for 2031.
