A collaborative partnership for the Celtic Sea wind project to boost clean energy

The UK renewables unit of France's nuclear giant EDF Renewables UK is entering into a joint venture with Irish renewable energy producer ESB and offshore wind investor Reventus Power to develop the Gwynt Glas floating offshore windfarm in the Celtic Sea. Every company is anticipated to hold an equal 33.33% stake in the project.

The team intends to bid on the 1 GW project during The Crown Estate's Leasing Round 5. DP Energy is still a development partner in the project, applying its local presence and participation.

According to EDF Renewables, the Gwynt Glas project team has been engaged in the Celtic Sea region for some time and has made significant progress in capitalising on the opportunity, including hosting supply chain events and implementing Destination Renewables, a programme that motivates the future workforce.

"We are utterly dedicated to developing Gwynt Glas Floating Offshore Wind Farm, and we look ahead to delivering clean energy, supporting skilled jobs, and boosting local economies," said Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF Renewables UK.

"We are already working with ESB on other projects, such as Neart na Gaoithe, our offshore wind farm in the Firth of Forth, and the Stornoway onshore wind farm in the Western Isles." We have a strong relationship with the Reventus Power team, having collaborated on Provence Grand Large, France's first floating offshore wind farm."

According to Jim Dollard, Executive Director, of Generation Trading at ESB, offshore wind will play an important role in ESB's goal of reaching net zero by 2040. "Floating offshore wind in particular has the potential to turn the dial, not just here in the UK but also in Ireland where we have one of the best floating offshore wind resources in the world," he said.

Michael van der Heijden, CEO of Reventus Power, stated, "We are happy to join EDF Renewables and ESB, two industry leaders, in the Gwynt Glas collaboration. We provide a thorough experience of the floating offshore wind business, and we look forward to participating in the next UK Round 5 Leasing Round."
