Our client is a Marine Survey and Environmental Consultancy company with its own accredited Laboratories. Our client specializes in the marine environment and offshore projects. Our client brings extensive experience in delivering geophysical, geotechnical, and environmental survey services to industries including oil & gas, renewables, submarine cables, and ports.

Key Responsibilities

The Surveyor is pivotal in conducting comprehensive surveys in offshore environments. This role involves collecting and analyzing data related to the sea floor, water depth, underwater features, and samples using state-of-the-art geophysical and/or geotechnical technologies. The Surveyor ensures the precision of survey data, adheres to client specifications, and maintains compliance with industry standards. Reporting to the Head of Nearshore Operations (and to the Party Chief when dispatched on a vessel), the Surveyor may undertake various project roles depending on his skill set, including surveyor, geophysicist, geologist, MMO, PAM, Geotechnical Expert, Geophysicist, Marine Geologist, Data Processor, GIS/Charting Technician, FLO, ROTV pilot, offshore processor or data coordinator (etc).

The Surveyor ensures that all data is processed and interpreted efficiently to produce accurate and comprehensive reports complying with required quality standards. Experienced Surveyor are also expected to step into the role of Party Chief when required. Furthermore:

  • Conduct geophysical and geotechnical surveys using specialized equipment.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, environmental policies, and industry standards during all offshore operations.
  • Gather and record accurate and reliable data on seafloor depth, underwater obstructions, and seabed conditions (Mobilize, calibrate, operate, and maintain survey equipment).
  • Configure and test data acquisition and processing software to ensure compatibility and proper operation.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of survey procedures, data collection methods, and equipment configurations.
  • Troubleshooting - Diagnose and resolve technical issues with equipment, software, and vessels during field operations.
  • Lead/supervise equipment deployment and recovery operations.
  • Processing, interpretation, and monitoring of subsea, seismic, and surface navigation data.
  • Assist the Survey Manager in any survey preparation work including the redaction of reports and procedures.
  • Conduct cross-validation checks with different data sets to confirm accuracy.
  • Identify and mitigate data artifacts, noise, and errors.
  • Analyze processed data to generate bathymetric charts, digital terrain models (DTMs), and other relevant data products.
  • Interpret geophysical data to identify seabed features, sub-seabed structures, and potential hazards.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Assist the Data Coordinator in the configuration of the online survey system.
  • Work closely with the Data Center team to coordinate survey activities, ensure data quality, and support project objectives.
  • Stay updated with advancements in hydrographic surveying technology and techniques.
  • Prepare detailed quality assurance documentation and reports.
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by the manager.

Candidate Profile

In addition to having a solid project surveyor profile, a strong technical background is required. Ability to put views across concisely yet strongly.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hydrography, Marine Geomatics, Oceanography, Geophysics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in geophysical and geotechnical surveying in offshore environments.
  • Utilize and maintain specialized data processing software and tools, such as QINSy, Qimera, NaviSuite, CARIS, QPS, HYPACK, SonarWiz, AutoCAD/AutoCHART, or GIS applications.
  • Capability to work in challenging offshore environments, including confined spaces, heights, and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Knowledge of hydrographic survey principles, and geophysical and geotechnical methods.
  • Ability to work offshore, involving extended periods on vessels.
  • Relevant certifications such as Hydrographic Surveyor Certification or industry-specific training (e.g., BOSIET, HUET).
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Familiarity with data integration and visualization techniques.
  • Good work ethic, communication skills, and attitude, as well as basic supervisory skills.
