About our client
Our client is a Marine Survey and Environmental Consultancy company with its own accredited Laboratories. Our client specializes in the marine environment and offshore projects. Our client brings extensive experience in delivering geophysical, geotechnical, and environmental survey services to industries including oil & gas, renewables, submarine cables, and ports.
Key Responsibilities
The Head of Geotechnics is the point of contact for any technical matter related to Geotechnics. With the support of the Offshore Operation Manager (to whom he reports) and the Survey Manager, she/he creates and continuously improves the Marine Survey geotechnics standards and make sure that project operational strategies are efficient. She/He works closely with the Survey Manager to minimize vessel downtime and maximize acquisition efficiency. Furthermore:
- Create, validate, and propose geophysics methodologies (Choice of equipment, procedures, and software) in line with Marine Survey industry best practices.
- Present the most cost-efficient and quality-optimized geotechnical techniques to deliver projects following contract requirements and within budget constraints.
- Provide support and/or troubleshoot technical issues when vessel crew and Data Scientists encounter challenges beyond their technical expertise.
- Be available to review the quality of all geophysical data.
- Assist in assessing chartered vessels.
- Support the Tender and Sales team by providing technical inputs and validating bid operational strategies, equipment, etc.
- Contribute to the improvement of the Marine Scientists and Data Scientists skills. Coach the team to improve the quality of the work performed.
- Collaborate with the Data Center team providing pertinent geotechnical inputs to optimize the processing, interpretation, and reporting of the acquired data.
- Propose proven technical advances to continually advance company techniques.
- Work closely with the QHSE team to identify hazards and define corresponding mitigation action plan.
- Offer technical support for the maintenance of all geotechnical-related equipment.
- Assess and investigate new / breakthrough technologies - Build a technical case.
- Assist in performing competency assessments and performance evaluations.
- Liaise with the geotechnical laboratories for any technical matter.
- The Head of geotechnics may be appointed as the Project Manager for specific projects.
- Carry out other tasks as assigned by the manager.
Candidate Profile
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in geoscience disciplines.
- 10 years of demonstrated experience in a geotechnical management role.
- Technical knowledge (Acquisition + Processing).
- Strong ability to work in a cross-functional environment.
- Problem-solving attitude.
- Influential skills.
- Hands-on / Willing to go offshore for troubleshooting if necessary.
- Curious about new technologies.
- QHSE focused.
- Good work ethic, communication skills, and attitude.
- English mandatory (100%), Spanish desired, French is a plus.
- Proficient with Cone Penetration Test (CPT), Vibro Corer, Piston Corer, Gravity Core, Grabing, and Standard geotechnical tests.
