For work on the Kaminho project offshore Angola, the subsidiary of TotalEnergies has awarded three contracts for a combined $3.7 billion (€3.41 billion) to the Italian engineering, procurement, and construction company Saipem. The contracts, which were given out by TotalEnergies EP Angola Block 20, are for the development of the oilfields located about 100 kilometres off the coast of Angola, at Cameia and Golfinho.
The Kaminho Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel's engineering, procurement, construction, transportation, and commissioning are covered under the initial contract. The second contract, which draws on experience from three previous FPSOs now in operation in Angola, is for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the same vessel FPSO for a fixed 12-year term with a possible 8-year extension.
A Subsea, Umbilicals, Risers, and Flowlines (SURF) package comprising about 30 km of 8" and 10" subsea flowlines and risers, as well as umbilicals, is the subject of the third contract, which covers engineering, procurement, supply, construction, installation, pre-commissioning, and assistance. In Saipem's local yard in Ambriz, the related structures will be constructed.
The project intends to reach a production plateau of 70,000 barrels of oil per day, with production set to begin in 2028.
With a state-of-the-art fleet and local fabrication capacity, Saipem's integrated business model is competitive, as evidenced by the joint awarding of the FPSO, O&M, and SURF contracts. The Italian behemoth also emphasised Saipem's unique ability to provide offshore and plant project management and engineering services.
The company will employ its field development vessel FDS for the offshore campaign, notably the J-lay vessel, and include the local supply chain in fabrication and logistics.
