Saipem has successfully shipped the massive offshore jacket for the Neptun Deep gas project from its fabrication yard in Italy to the Black Sea, marking a major construction milestone for one of Europe's most significant offshore energy developments.
The jacket, weighing approximately 7,500 tonnes and standing around 135 meters high, will form the foundation of the offshore production platform. Once transported to the Black Sea, it will be installed using heavy-lift vessels before being connected to subsea infrastructure, export pipelines, and a fiber-optic communications system.
Developed by OMV Petrom and Romgaz, the Neptun Deep project is expected to become the largest natural gas development currently under construction in the European Union. The project includes offshore production facilities, subsea systems, a 160-kilometer gas export pipeline, and supporting infrastructure designed to increase Romania's domestic gas production and strengthen Europe's long-term energy security.
