Using one of Transocean's semi-submersible rigs, OMV Norge, a part of Austria's OMV oil and gas firm, has begun drilling an exploratory well in the Norwegian Sea.
Following approval for drilling the well 6607/3-1 S from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) and approval from the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) for exploration drilling in the Norwegian Sea's blocks 6607/3 and 6607/6, OMV has now completed these tasks. At a depth of around 475 metres, the Prospect Velocette is located.
The Velocette potential will be our ninth exploratory well, and we are thrilled to have started drilling it, said Longboat Energy CEO Helge Hammer. The gas-weighted opportunity called Velocette is aimed at extremely substantial potential resources. The exploratory well has a lot of potential for further development, which will be derisked if it is successful.
