A cooperation between Microsoft and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) aims to enhance marine safety, lower emissions from the maritime industry, and improve vessel route planning.
The recent MoU between Microsoft and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) aims to collaborate on emerging technologies, including robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, data analytics, and cybersecurity.
The MPA states that the two parties would test just-in-time arrivals, which shortens the turnaround periods for vessels in port, and artificial intelligence (AI) and digital twins to optimise vessel route planning to improve safety and lower emissions in marine operations.
Microsoft and MPA will also look into ways that their respective cybersecurity expertise may work together.
Microsoft Singapore's managing director, Lee Hui Li, said: "We are excited to start this historic journey with MPA, harnessing Microsoft's cutting-edge technologies in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity to drive the digital and green transformation of the marine sector. As we drive innovation for the global marine sector, we work together to set new standards in sustainability, efficiency, and safety."
The Assistant Chief Executive of Operations Technology at MPA, David Foo, stated: "MPA's partnership with Microsoft is a major step in bolstering Maritime Singapore's digitalisation and sustainability initiatives. To solve the major issues in port operations and service delivery, safe ship navigation, cybersecurity, and sustainability, MPA is happy to collaborate with the industry to develop digital solutions and apps."
Along with lowering operating expenses and carbon emissions to meet national and international emission standards, cooperation will help the marine industry achieve its aims of innovation.
Additionally, early adopters and upskilled personnel will receive training from MPA and Microsoft on how to use and use these solutions for their operations.
