In a significant boost to the development of Dubai's iconic Palm Jebel Ali, Belgium-based Jan De Nul Group has secured a prestigious contract with Nakheel, a key member of Dubai Holding Real Estate. This exciting project will see the construction of a massive 13.4-kilometer island, featuring 16 fronds and an impressive 91 kilometers of beachfront. The entire scope of the marine works is set to be completed in just over two years.
Jan De Nul's new assignment involves dredging, land reclamation, beach profiling, and sand placement, all crucial to supporting the construction of luxury villas on the island. To undertake these complex tasks, Jan De Nul will deploy state-of-the-art equipment, including the specialized trailing suction hopper dredger “Brunelleschi.” The group is also mobilizing land equipment from its logistics hub in Dubai to ensure the highest standards in marine construction.
One of the most innovative aspects of this project is the development and installation of a special sieve on the vessel “Brunelleschi,” which will lay down a 1-meter-thick top layer of the highest quality sand to finalize the beaches. This attention to detail is a testament to Jan De Nul Group’s expertise in dredging, rock protection, and soil compaction.
