Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. ("Petrobras") and Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc. have inked new three-year vessel charter and service agreements, which will allow the riser-based well intervention vessels Siem Helix 1 and Siem Helix 2 to continue operating in Brazilian offshore waters.
Daniel Stuart, Vice President—Commercial at Helix, highlighted the solid relationship that Helix has built with Petrobras over the previous seven years in expressing his excitement for the new contracts. He underlined that providing the Brazilian offshore market with excellent intervention services that are safe, effective, and economical is the cornerstone of their long-standing collaboration. Stuart further said how these new contracts support Helix's mission to deliver creative, tailored solutions by utilising their vast worldwide health intervention experience.
According to Petrobras, these contracts are worth a total of about $786 million. An extra three-year extension is an option included in every contract.
Modern, purpose-built vessels, the Siem Helix 1 and Siem Helix 2 are intended for a variety of subsea services. Along with well intervention and production enhancement, they are also capable of well decommissioning, subsea installation, offshore crane operations, remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operations, offshore construction, and emergency response.
These new agreements show how Helix and Petrobras are committed to providing top-notch well intervention services to the offshore oil and gas industry and strengthen their longstanding collaboration.
Since 2017, the Siem Helix 2 has been an essential component of Petrobras' operations, providing riser-based well intervention services with consistency in the Santos and Campos Basins. This vessel has successfully executed over 100 well interventions over the years, and it has been instrumental in Petrobras' offshore oil and gas well optimisation and maintenance.
Petrobras' operations will continue to be significantly impacted by the Siem Helix 1 and 2, which will help optimise output and manage Brazil's offshore resources sustainably.
